FIRST-EVER DELHI VISIT: A DAY IN DELHI
Being a south Indian and crossing the tropic of cancer for the first time in these 21 years of existence, brought in a different level of excitement. Leaving the house at 3:30 AM for a 9:30 AM flight should portray how solicitous I was about going to Delhi for the very first time.
We were expected to land in Delhi around 12:30 PM, so we were confused about where and how to explore the city during the rest of the day. But IndiGo had different plans for us. The flight was delayed by 2 hours due to bad weather. After sleeping through that 2 hours in Kempe Gowda airport and 2 hours on the plane, we finally reached Delhi at 2:30 pm.
From all the heterogeneous population Delhi had, Ola wanted to send us a Punjabi cab driver. Who wanted to cancel the ride from the moment we got into the cab till we reached the destination. And wouldn't stop quarrelling on the phone and also with everyone on the road. One appreciable fact is that all cabs were CNG driven. We reached the destination which was NSUT at Dwarka. The most pleasing thing about this campus was being able to spot peacocks and peahens everywhere. The red sandstone buildings amidst the lush green campus were picturesque.
After spending 2 days at this campus and completing our purpose of visit, we left Dwarka to explore the “Dilwalon Ki Dilli”
The past 2 completely sleepless and tiring days, ate up the first half of the trip day. We were completely exhausted from the competition, so took some quick rest for the first half of the day and started the noon from the Qutub Minar. Recalled seeing a picture of this world heritage site in the class 7 history textbook. It was not any close to what I had imagined or what my teacher and textbook told me back in 7th grade. But it surely was a mighty red stone tower one could sit and gaze at all day.
The next resort was at the lotus temple. It was the tasty and juicy Litchis that kept us going through the scorching weather of Delhi. We just timely entered as the entry gates were about to close. It was a well-maintained and well-built structure. After a few minutes of so-called meditation and a few more selfies, we left for our next destination.
With so much excitement to have local Delhi food and shop from the local shops, we left to the India gate, only to find it was closed and was under construction. Next, we headed to Connaught Place, which had a large shopping arena in the subway. Which was called the Palika bazaar - an underground shopping complex. After a quick shopping and a brief walk in this never-ending complex, we went to a really beautiful place to have dinner.
It was a revolving restaurant. Located on the 24th floor of a building, with a bird's eye view of the majestic Delhi city. It took around 90 mins for the restaurant to complete one rotation. Starting from the red fort, it gave a splendid view of the major buildings of the city which included the Jama masjid, parliament house, and the central park to name few familiar ones. The panoramic view and the tasty food from this rooftop restaurant were a good end to the day.
